Westeifel Werke win red dot design award 2009

1400 companies from 49 countries competed for the world-wide coveted award with 3231 submissions. The Westeifel Werke based in the Eifel, took part in the contest with two products which were planned, developed and manufactured together with designer Max Wehberg.
Both outdoor furnishings submitted by Westeifel Werke, bench Cado and bench Tecto, obtained the red dot award: Product design 2009. Not only the design played an important part; a contributing factor, also, was the ecological aspect of utilizing FSCFM certified hardwood for both products.

Bench Cado corpus

Stately, self confident - pure - these are the characteristic features of bench Cado Corpus. The form-giving cladding is made of ecological FSC FM-certified hardwood. The design elements join together with a length dimension measuring 3 metres to create an elegant, puristic and comfortable town furniture. Weighing 240kg the bench can stand up to the wear and tear in crowded and highly frequented public areas. Functionally, the Cado Corpus bench series offers a wide model-variety which facilitates an integrated yet individual design throughout different town locations.

Bench Tecto

Puristic and elegant bench Tecto combines contrasts.
The product seems light in appearance but with a weight of  214kg, it is predestined to withstand the high strains in public areas.
A special eye-catcher is the joining of bench-foot and bench-seat, the permeation of the components allows the seat slats to levitate at the side of each bench-foot.
The bench-series Tecto is made of FSCFM-certified hardwood. The planner, who wants to design different town locations individually yet with continuity, may resort to a multitude of varieties.

Design Max Wehberg

Characterized by his artistic parents’ house, Max Wehberg soon distinguished himself through his clear-cut style during his first internship in the Academy for Visual Arts in Hamburg, a reduced puristic design and his love of material and handcraft. After several years of activity as a freelancer, his bureau, founded in 1999, operates in the classic design-disciplines such as product-development or interior design and in areas of architecture, stage design and arts.
